Who has bought Oxford Blue 1589?

Al Barnett reports: We are making progress. With the help of Chris Watkin I now have an agent in Japan and he has made contact with the vendor David Boniface . The agent will find when the next ship will depart for Southampton and book a slot.
I thought it would be best to put the car into a container but I have been advised that the containers have a 6" lip on the entrance and although loaders are supposed to use a ramp, when they are busy they don't always do so. It seems that importers have had more damage this way than using the straightforward Roll on Roll off system. So we are going for RO RO, the cost is expected to be around £450 for Japan to Southampton. I then have to add the agent's fees since he will be looking after the export papers, transport to the docks, insurance etc.

I have now sorted out the method of money transfer and am watching the daily exchange rate with great interest. Todays dive in the Stock and Money markets put another £250 on the costs and I am not transferring the money until Friday: fingers crossed!

I received a CD through the post this morning with no less than 70 pictures, of the car taken last week. I am attaching one which shows one of the reasons for buying the car!

David Boniface advertised his RV8 on the V8 website on 2nd March and then in the early hours of 10th, David sent an email to say:

Dear Victor
My RV8 is sold thanks to the ad, many thanks.
You may know already who is buying it but I will leave him to tell you himself.
Best regards and thanks again.

So this attractive RV8 had sold in less than 8 days through an RV8s for Sale advert on the V8 website. Surely a sign that good V8s move fast when advertised on the V8 website! But who was the mystery buyer?
Who is the mystery buyer of Oxford Blue 1589?
Well a phone call from Al Barnett, the V8 Chairman, on Saturday evening revealed the mystery buyer's identity. Al follows the news on the V8 website on a daily basis and had spotted the advert posted on 2nd March of a low mileage RV8 with the added bonus of a modified engine. Yes the mystery buyer was Al Barnett who had phoned David in Tokyo and negotiated a deal - all in less than 8 days!

Dear Victor,
You may recall I reckoned David's car would be a good buy and suggested it might do you very well as you have sometimes said you would like an open V8. Well since you didn't express any interest I decided my words were so convincing that I bought the car myself! I have to say that without the V8 Register I would not have been able to do so. I have had comprehensive advice and offers of help from both Clive Wheatley and Chris Watkins (HS Imports) who, although he is no longer in the RV8 reimporting business could not have been more helpful. So if you want to put a news item saying the V8 Chairman is buying a new car then please do. Delivery is of course some time away yet as I will start arranging that on Monday. More details when I see you next week.

Regards and thanks for the website,

Al Barnett
