Al Barnett has
sent in his fourth report on his experience of buying Oxford
Blue 1589 who had advertised the car on the V8 website and then
reimporting it to the UK:
I am now back in UK after a pleasant three weeks in France where
the weather was cooler and wetter than UK but the wine was cheaper
and I didn't have to mow the lawn. The car, Oxford Blue 1589, has
now left Yokohama and is en route to Southampton aboard the MV Asian
Sun. The normal time en route is around 5 weeks so I hope the arrival
date will be towards the end of May.
I have paid the Japanese agent's bill of 100,000 yen, which at the
current exchange rate amounts to £426 (GBP 426). I now have
the Bill of Lading and the all important Export Certificate, the
latter in both English and Japanese. I have applied online to the
DVLA for their Vehicle Import Pack and am awaiting delivery. Peter
Best Insurance have confirmed they can issue an Insurance Certificate
based on the chassis number, pending the issue of a UK registration
and number plate. I do not have the car yet but David Boniface has,
whilst visiting London, delivered the

tool roll,
spare key and one or two other items, including a totally incomprehensible
detailed service record in Japanese!
The other important development is that BRG 1839, our lovely RV8,
has now gone to a new owner in Scotland. My thanks to Clive Wheatley
for handling the sale and to Steve and Jill for delivering it. I truly
hope the new owner will enjoy RV8 ownership as much as I have. There
was plenty of interest in the car and we could have sold it three
times over. Still I have always said if you want to sell a car, take
care of it and don't ask too much. The philosophy seems to have worked
well on this occasion.
Today we have had a trip to Pontypridd in Wales to go and see Mark
who is breaking two RV8s, you may have seen his entries on the V8
Bulletin Board. I had bought a couple of items from him on Ebay and
whilst collecting them also came away with a brand new spare wheel
and a pair of as new rear lights. These will join the 'Big Box' of
spares that I have, most of which I have fortunately never needed
but they do give a sense of comfort! (1.5.07)
Diary of reimporting Oxford Blue 1589
We felt many members would be interested in a series of running reports
on Al Barnett's experiences with reimporting this RV8. So Al will
be sending a series of reports of how he has organised the export
arrangements, freight and insurances, reimport procedures, collection
from the UK docks and preparation for UK roads. The full set of reports
is available using the links below.
