Don
Hayter joined the design office at MG in February 1956 at
a time when the MG Factory was producing MGAs with much of his
time as Design Engineer, right through to August 1979 when the
plant finally closed following Black Monday. His
experience prior to Abingdon was as an apprentice at the Pressed
Steel plant at Cowley during and after the WW2 in aircraft production
design following which he joined Aston Martin, then based at
Feltham in Middlesex. His talk in 2002 on the Development of
the MGBGTV8 at Abingdon was well attended by MGV8 enthusiasts.

John
Targett had an unforgettable smile with an engaging personality
that welcomed interesting conversation. His humour was boundless
but he was no lightweight, but a very serious person with a
professional approach to his work and his passion for motor
racing preparation and track skills. He moved to the USA in
1976 but regularly returned to England for Club and V8 Register
events and particularly enjoyed the Goodwood Revival weekend.
Returning home was a welcome opportunity for tasting the subtle
flavour of real ale brewed in the UK and enjoying it in the
company of friends. He had an MGBGTV8 in the UK. 140206

Bill
Wallis served with distinction as Chairman of the Club from
1980 to 1985 but he will be remembered most for his role as
our Club President, a post that he has filled in every sense
of the word from 1996. He was unanimously elected each year
at the Club's annual AGM and this was no surprise to anyone
who was privileged to know the man. He joined the Club in 1949
and had a ling association with the Midland Centre. He was an
MGV8 enthusiast, owning an MGBGTV8 and later an RV8. 100823

Geoff
Allen - his fondness for MGs and his willingness to help
fellow enthusiasts was legendary. His knowledge and experience
of maintaining post war MGs came from working in Rectifications
Department at the MG Factory at Abingdon for 27 years. So he
was well used to a variety of fault finding and curing challenges
which he clearly enjoyed. Geoff had very many friends through
the Club and MG world and those who met him will recall his
sense of humour and good cheer. In fact some of his stories,
recounted with that gentle Berkshire burr and gleam in his eye,
were both extraordinary and real. He was the V8 Register's archivist.
After the sad closure of the MG Factory, Geoff set up his own
business in Abingdon and found V8 enthusiasts beating a path
to his door for the special knowledge and TLC he could apply
to servicing and repairs. His wife Jean acted as bookkeeper
and spares collector, regularly driving the 90 mile round trip
to Moss in Richmond in the V8 Roadster. On retirement he moved
to Congleton in Cheshire. He died peacefully on Saturday 10th
June 2006 age 76. 060610
