New
laws come into force in 2007 covering hand held mobile phones in cars
Motorists in the
UK who make calls using a hand-held mobile phone will receive an increased
fixed fine of £60 and three penalty points on their driving
licence under new laws which came into force on 27th February 2007.
In the last year, statistics provided by the government record 221,400
motorists had their driving licence revoked for various motoring offences.
With the introduction of the stricter mobile phone law this figure
could rise by as much as 20% or more over the next few years.
More than 100,000 motorists have already received fines for using
their hand held mobile phones whilst driving during the last year.
Some drivers have been disqualified from driving or sent to prison
as a result of an accident where they were using their handheld mobile
phone at the time of the accident.

If
you are involved in an accident while using a mobile phone
it can count against you and it may not be a case of a £30
fine but something more serious. So don't risk it, get a
hands free kit if you want to be able to make simple calls
whilst driving. Clearly it is not wise to engage in complex
phone calls when you are driving as they can distract a
driver, but simple calls using a hands-free mobile phone
kit with due care are not unreasonable.
