Good news - Dunlop composite wheel restoration service available again!
Renowheel in South Wales offers a restoration
service for Dunlop composites. They split the wheels and mark each
one as they split them so they go back together exactly as they come
apart. They usually out-source the chroming of the steel rim where
they are heavily copper coated and re-chromed.

What does a seriously corroded Dunlop composite look like?
See photos of an example of a Dunlop composite wheel on
an MGBGTV8 "barn find" which was in a seriously corroded
condition. The chromed steel rim is looking rough and the section
of the rim near the alloy centre is particularly corroded. 201022

Refurbishing a set of Dunlop composites
Mike Breedon had an original set of Dunlop wheels which were in an
appalling state, even to the extent he never thought they would be
used again without a full refurbishment through dismantling each wheel
- but as others have found that option is no longer available. His
note describes his refurbishment. 200322

What are your options faced
with corroded Dunlop composites?
An increasing number of MGBGTV8 enthusiasts have seen their Dunlop
composite wheels developing moderate or serious levels of corrosion
on the chromed steel rims and have sought advice on where they can
get them refurbished. Well since Motor Wheel Services (MWS) at Langley
near Slough ceased providing their high quality and skilled refurbishment
service a few years ago the reality is the refurbishment of Dunlop
composites is no longer available. So what are your options? 180710

Replacement options for
corroded Dunlop composite wheels
R efurbishing the Dunlop composite wheels on an MGBGTV8 is a job a
relatively few specialists can undertake. Until a few years ago, Motor
Wheel Service International based at Langley east of Slough offered
a refurbishment service but sadly they decided to cease providing
it. So far we have not heard of an alternative refurbisher with the
necessary skills to undertake thorough and professional refurbishments
of Dunlop composite wheels. 180403

MWS
sadly decide to cease restoring Dunlop compoosite wheels
Motor Wheel Services in Slough have confirmed they have decided to
end their refurbishment service for Dunlop composite wheels with alloy
centres and steel rims because the costs are getting higher and they
felt it was not sustainable. So the options for MGBGTV8 enthusiasts
now with a set of original wheels in need of refurbishment are either
advertise to try and find someone with a good quality set they wish
to sell or purchase a set of the new all-alloy MGBGTV8 wheels from
Clive Wheatley. They are only available in a 15" diameter size
and not the original 14" size. More
New all-alloy Dunlop composite
lookalike replacement wheels for an MGBGTV8
New all-alloy 15" replacement wheels for the MGBGTV8 with an
alloy centre and a highly polished alloy rim are available from Clive
Wheatley mgv8parts. They are produced with the distinctive faceted
feature of the wheel centre of the original Dunlop composite wheel
to make a wheel which looks so close to the original yet is a strong
wheel too. The all-alloy wheels are nano coated to provide
protection from the potentially damaging effects road spray, particularly
on the alloy rims. Although the original Dunlop
composites are 14" diameter Clive says the visual impact of the
half inch increase either side of his 15" wheels is very small
and original character of the Factory V8 is retained. 160722
