V8 Online Auction Rules

Bidding process

Before you can post a bid you will need to register as a bidder ("Registered Bidder") and to do this you will need to complete an online registration form providing the essential contact information and certain MGV8 vehicle data. Note: Registered Bidders must be current members of the MG Car Club.
Online registration form

When you click the SEND button at the foot of that registration form, that registration data is sent automatically to the V8 Webmaster. You will get an automatic response with details of how to calculate your personal bidding code ("Personal Bidding Code") which you will need to use when making bids. You will need to make a copy of that webpage and keep it for future reference.

Only bids quoting a valid Personal Bidding Code will be accepted. Any bids without a valid code or with a false code will be removed from the V8 Bulletin Board by the V8 Webmaster.

All bids for an item up for auction on the V8 Register website shall each be posted as a message on the V8 Bulletin Board which can be accessed directly using the rollover link alongside or by using the V8 Bulletin Board rollover link on the homepage of the V8 Register Website. All bids posted on the V8 Bulletin Board shall contain the information indicated in the bid format set out in the panel alongside ("Bid Format").

The start date and time for bids will be announced by the V8 Webmaster on the V8 Bulletin Board. That announcement will state the starting date and time ("Stating Date and Time") and the closing date and time for bids ("Closing Date and Time"). All times posted shall be GMT. A Registered Bidder may post as many bids as they wish within this period.

The price must be expressed in Pounds Sterling (GBP). That Bid Price will not include any post and packaging or other costs and taxes associated with delivering the item to the successful Registered Bidder. Those costs will have to be paid by the successful Registered Bidder in addition to their final Bid Price. The sale is not liable to VAT.

Personal Bidding Code
Following your registration as a Registered Bidder, you will receive an automatic response with a Personal Bidding Code. How you use that code will be explained in that response but the essential feature is the code will change each day you bid. The changes you will have to make will be changes made using the instructions in that response. Without that safeguard other users of the V8 Bulletin Board would be able to place bids using any code disclosed by earlier Registered Bidders and hence create chaos.

Bid Format
Please use this bid format for each bid you make as a registered Bidder. V8 Bulletin Board

Each bid for an item up for auction on the V8 Register website shall be posted as a message on the V8 Bulletin Board including:

Select topic: in the drop down list select "Online Auction".

Name: you may either use your full name (in the usual way postings are made on the V8 Bulletin Board) or you can simply quote your current Personal Bidding Code. This is an exception to our normal requirement on the V8 Bulletin Board that all users posting messages must disclose their full name because we are aware that some bidders would prefer not to disclose their name when bidding for an item at auction on the V8 Bulletin Board. However all bidders must disclose their full name when registering as a bidder.

Email: Enter your email address here but do note it is not revealed in your posting as displayed on the V8 Bulletin Board.

Subject: in the subject line type "Auction: V8 exhaust manifold"

Message: this section of your posting must contain only the following two items of information:

1. Bid Price
This is the price in Pounds Sterling (GBP) you, as a Registered Bidder, offer to purchase the item for at auction. The price must be expressed in Pounds Sterling (GBP). Note there is a reserve price.

2. Personal Bidding Code

Quote your current code using the Personal Bidding Code and instructions in the automated response you will have received following registration. Note you will have to recalculate your code each day you make a bid.

No other comments may be included in a bid posting on the V8 Bulletin Board. In particular please do not include any contact information like email addresses or telephone numbers with your bid posting on the V8 Bulletin Board or in any other posting on the V8 Bulletin Board or on any other bulletin board or forum where the subject matter relates to the item up for auction on the V8 Website.

Adjudication of bids

Following the Closing Date and Time for bids the V8 Webmaster will contact the Registered Bidder who has posted the highest bid to make arrangements for their inspection of the item and completion of the purchase.
Force Majeure
Sadly we are aware that spammers and other miserable individuals are seeking ways of interfering with websites like ours, so should the operation of the V8 Online Auction be disrupted by any activities of those people, the V8 Online Auction may need to be suspended. In that case the V8 Webmaster and/or the seller of the item at auction will endeavour to contact Registered Bidders by telephone or directly by email so that suitable arrangements may be made to continue the auction. We have specifically not asked Registered Bidders to post email addresses on the V8 Bulletin Board or other registration information because we are aware spammers and their associates scavenge websites for email addresses and thereafter plague you with offensive and unwanted spam emails, many of which have virus infected attachments.

Condition of the item offered for sale by auction
The item is offered for sale in good faith without any represenbtation or warranty by the donor of this item or the V8 Register as to the condition or fitness for purpose of the item. Anyone buying the item through an Online V8 Auction process must make their own inspection of the item before completing the purchase, or arrange for a specialsit to do so on their behalf, and then having decided to purchase the item shall undertake not to make any subequent claim on either the donor or the V8 Register in respect of any defect subsequently found with the item before or after its use as an exhaust manifold or any consequentiual damage arising therefrom.
