The
next V8 Tour in the popular series is planned for the long weekend
from Friday 2nd to Monday 5th October 2009
and will be based at the Buxton Palace Hotel at the spa
town in Derbyshire. Details of the programme of visits and events
are alongside together for booking information.
The tour will be based at the 4 star Buxton Palace Hotel in the centre
of the gracious spa town of Buxton in Derbyshire, a part of England
once known as "The English Switzerland". The hotel, designed
by Henry Currey the architect to the Duke of Devonshire at the time,
has recently undergone much refurbishment. The interior is exquisite
and the staff at the hotel are all extremely friendly and helpful.
The hotel provides large, comfortable en-suite bedrooms and complementary
use of leisure facilities including swimming pool and gym. For anyone
wanting a little pampering, beauty treatments can be booked!! The
restaurant is most attractive with a wide-ranging menu, prepared by
an excellent chef. The wine list should suit most palates and is reasonably
priced.
The hotel is part of the Barceló group, previously the Paramount
Hotel Group. The car park is very large and the parking charges are
included in the hotel deal. See

As many of you
know, the area around Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock holds more than
we can cover in a weekend; it is truly a beautiful area and it seems
that every route has fabulous scenery. So, what have we in mind
for your enjoyment?
First and foremost, an enjoyable and relaxing few days with three
nights dinner, bed and breakfast and the company of the V8 gang
- or "family"- as it almost seems! We are planning beautiful
sights above and below ground in this lovely part of England, including
delightful villages and small towns, Dove Dale ('Little Switzerland'),
Chatsworth House, a cable car ride from Matlock Bath to The Heights
of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern (where you more or less just walk
into the hillside with just a few steps). We had wanted to include
the Blue John Cavern, but we were put off by the 244 steps which
can be slippery and by the warning notice by the entrance that it
is not suitable for anyone with heart conditions or bronchial illness.
However, we will be driving by the entrance, so the more adventurous
members of the group could easily see for themselves or anyone can
just visit the gift shop, which sells excellent Blue John clocks,
jewellery etc at reasonable costs. We would also like to include
a visit to Romantic Haddon Hall with its beautiful gardens. It is
the home of Lord and Lady Edward Manners and is said to be 'the
most perfect English House to survive from the Middle Ages'. Buxton
town centre is less than 5 mins walk from the hotel and we leave
time for you to enjoy the town at your leisure.
We really do hope you will join us. The cost per couple for the
weekend is £460 including 3 nights dinner, bed and breakfast,
rally plaque and admission to the various attractions plus incidental
expenses. All other extras at the hotel will need to be settled
by each member.
