More on comparing the RV8 and the Hoyle front suspension upgrades
Does anyone have a photograph of the RV8 suspension to compare the spring position with the Hoyle was the question posed by Geoff King following the release of V8NOTE391 "How do the RV8 and the Hoyle front suspensions compare?" (Dec 08)

What are the differences between the RV8 and Hoyle kits?
The two photos below have been supplied by John Hoyle to show the different positioning of the front spring on an RV8 (which is identical to all the MGBs) when compared with the Hoyle upgrade system. As you can see John Hoyle has moved the spring towards the wheel by cutting and modifying the end of the cross-member, and the bottom of the spring is now much closer to the wheel which alters the leverage dramatically, so that a spring of approximately 2/3 the poundage is required to do the same job. The suspension is therefore much more responsive and supple and is properly controlled by a good quality damper. That is the basic difference between the MGA, MGB, MGBGTV8 and RV8 front suspension and the Hoyle kit.

As far as John Hoyle is aware, all previous front suspension upgrades have not moved the spring position, so that is why the Hoyle set up makes such a dramatic improvement. John Hoyle hopes this helps clarify the real differences.
