Heater rail modification to avoid a heavy indentation on a rubber heater hose
Steve Newton
has come across a number of RV8s with an indentation on an elbow shaped rubber heater hose on the end of the heater rail near the alternator. He suggests a cure. (Apr 11)

The heavy indentation is made by a bolt head on the alternator cradle pressing against the rubber tubing. Steve says it's not seen on every car so why does it appear on some RV8s? It seems that in the manufacture of the heater rails there was some variability in the positioning of the welded brackets on the rail so when the heater rail is bolted down with the fixing bolts, the end of the rail near the alternator is too close to the alternator. So the elbow is pressed up hard against the bolt head on the alternator. The cure is not to bolt up rail to the fixing point. to allow the heater rail to be moved forward. But note the bolt must be put back to hold the fuel rail in place.
