Where does the coolant go?
Simon Austin in Canada posted a query on a cooling difficulty. Graham Cornford in the USA suggested a possible cause and a way of avoiding coolant loss. (Apr 11)

Simon Austin posted his query: "I tried the search feature but nothing comes up on the following topic.
After completing the coolant hose change and filling the system according to the service manual, I find I have to top off the reservoir from time to time. I know the reservoir was filled correctly but then a couple of days later, the amount in the reservoir is down to just above the hose. No obvious leaks under the car nor signs of coolant in the exhaust. I seem to recall a post regarding something along this topic a while back but can't remember details."

Graham Cornford's has a factory MGBGTV8 and siad "a known problem which occurs with them, if the expansion tank is overfilled, is coolant is siphoned out. As a matter of course when I refill the system, as a temporary measure I always tie a small coke bottle over the end of the overflow tube for a few days to see if I am losing any fluid. Not necessarily a cure for your problem but if you catch something it could give you a starting point."
