Fitting a tow bar to an RV8
Nigel Ricardo posted a query on the V8BB seeking advice on fitting a tow bar to an RV8. Tim Hipwell responded with some photos of the tow bar he had fitted to the RV8 he used to own. (Jan 10)

Nigel Ricardo said "on the Australian website at www.mgrv8.com they have photos of Tim Hipwell's car which used a chrome bumper MGB tow bar and cutting a slot behind the number plate and making an extension piece. Does the MGB tow bar bolt straight on or does it need modifying to clear the exhaust or any obstacles?"

Tim Hipwell responded saying "my MGB tow bar was basically an L shaped bar and was attached to the rear valence with a strengthening strip on the "inside" of the valance. With short bolts it was possible to fit the bar with no modifications to either the exhaust or the fuel tank. I recall I made a "bar" in thick cardboard to get the shape exactly the same as the valance and to make sure the holes through the bar and valance cleared all obstacles. The left-most hole and bolt fits right through the centre of the U shape bracket for the exhaust on the inside of the valance. The attached photos illustrate the installation."

"Drop bar" which connects through the bumper.

The bumper hole is completely hidden once the number plate is replaced. I connected all the electrics to a standard 7 pin socket which was also hidden behind the bumper to maintain the "secret" installation
