Cooling
hoses for the RV8
Mike Howlett posted a query on the V8BB seeking
help with the cooling pipes on his conversion. (Feb 09)
Mike Howlett said "my conversion, which is nearing completion,
uses a 1991 3.9 litre Range Rover engine and so is very similar to
an RV8 in layout. The water pump has only one outlet on the rear and
the normal flow is from the inlet manifold, through the heater and
back again to the back of the pump. I have a couple of questions with
respect to the engine cooling circuit.
Firstly
the steam vent, you know, the little pipe that pokes up out of the
inlet manifold - where is connected to on the RV8? Can I "T"
this pipe into the pipe to the expansion tank?
Secondly,
the RV8 uses an in-line water valve for the heater, and I intend to
do the same. However, if I do that, I will block the coolant flow
as described above whenever the valve is closed. This doesn't happen
on the Range Rover because it uses a permanently hot, air-blending
heater. What happens on the RV8? I am currently thinking of simply
fitting a joiner between the two heater pipes on the engine side of
the heater valve. Will this work?
I hope someone
can enlighten me. I unfortunately don't know anyone who owns an RV8
to ask!"

Alan Spence offered to send Mike a copy of several diagrams
from the RV8 Repair Manual. Copies of those diagrams and a photograph
of a set of replacement cooling hoses marked up to show each item
is available via the link above.
