MGBGTV8 prices poised for a rise?
Keith Belcher recognises the V8 has been enjoyed for over 40 years by real enthusiasts who have owned and driven them as wonderfully understated and affordable classic cars which fortunately the "chequebook investors" have not discovered. That could change in 2015 with the V8 appearing in a new 13 part Channel 5 series on classic cars featuring the respected motoring journalist Quentin Willson. It's likely the programme will appeal to high roller investors in a fashionable "Top Prat'esque" style encouraging investment in classic cars. What may help fuel an investment surge is the substantial release of funds for some pensioners under greater pension flexibility measures due to start in the UK in 2015.

Keith Belcher says he recently had a conversation with one of the UK's top discreet high value classic car dealers who agreed with Keith that MGBGTV8s "are much undervalued, for the reasons we all know about." The dealer is actively seeking a suitable V8 as an investment. Keith has also heard on the grapevine of one dealer who has recently bought three V8s as he is anticipating a rise in MGBGTV8 values. Keith thinks that with many other classic cars where values are seen on the rise, reports of investors moving into the classic car market again and the prospect of funds released when some pensions are soon to be freed up, all it needs is for the MGBGTV8 to be praised on a prime time show and that will see V8 prices rise. I suspect Quentin Willson will say in one of the episodes of the new Channel 5 classic car show that the V8 is undervalued creating a surge of interest in the market. Keith feels
Willson has previous form in his praise of the MGBGTV8 and recalls two supportive comments on the MGBGTV8 from him:
> Top Gear MGB buying guide (around 1992) - "I'd spend my money on the V8. Shoehorned under the bonnet nestles Rover's accomplished 3.5 Litre engine. Quick, poised and completely fuss free, sixty comes up in around 8 seconds. Slingshot performance with total tractability. Eight grand should secure an original low mileage car like this, but beware they're addictive!"
> The Cars The Star (around 1997) - "It was one of the finest MGBs ever but drove smack into the fuel crisis of 1973."
