Safety concerns with a suspension component on an MGZT260V8

Just occasionally a safety issue crops up which both commercial classic car magazines and specialist groups like the V8 Register feel need good publicity so fellow enthusiasts exposed to the risk can be informed and take any necessary precautionary checks and remedial work. With the ZT260V8 model we feel it is essential information on a safety issue should be circulated without delay.

Many thanks to Simon Goldsworthy at MG Enthusiast magazine for
promptly and kindly confirming that both MGE as publisher and Malcolm Robertson as author of the article are pleased to grant permission to the V8 Register to reproduce this article which appears in the current March 2014 issue of MGE.

Malcolm Robertson, a ZT260V8 enthusiast in Australia, has discovered some maintenance jobs are not optional and should not be delayed. His experience with a failure of a weld on the four radius arms on the rear subframe is a sobering reminder that this type of issue needs to dealt with promptly. Some might say only a few cases of this type of failure have occurred but it's clearly wise to check this area of risk promptly and any strengthening work or replacement should not be delayed - as Malcolm says it could mean the difference between life and death.

A timely article in the March 2014 issue of MG Enthusiast magazine was highlighted by Mike Howlett in a V8 Bulletin Board thread and fellow members with a ZT260V8, like Peter Garton in Germany, were keen to learn more. Well we contacted the editor of MG Enthusiast magazine, Simon Goldsworthy, to seek permission for the V8 Register to reproduce the article as it clearly has safety implications for all ZT260V8 owners in the UK and overseas. He has very promptly and kindly confirmed that both MGE as publisher and Malcolm Robertson as author of the article are pleased to grant permission. Photos: MG Enthusiast
