Glover reports "arrangements for our trip to Montreuil are going well, we
are thirty souls at the moment and 16 cars, but only V8 with John Bennett with
his MGBGTV8 (Damask 0626)".
Jon provides an update with more information
on the Montreuil trip and adds ",I haven't dared look at the long range weather
forecast!". He says:
"Caroline and I are going to stay the night
before departure ,Friday 11th. April in The Portland Hotel,Folkestone. It's right
next door to the Leas Cliff Hall, underground car park, which is CTV monitored ,and
opens at 6 AM.-Be nice to start with a dry vehicle, all right for you GT types!
We are dining at RockSalt, overlooking the Harbour - good reviews, do join us. |
For
speed we will take the A16 out of Calais and then an N route, providing both road
good surfaces and nice driving. We just want to take advantage of the Market,
and it will be 9am local time by the time we leave Le Shuttle terminal, then another
hour to Montreuil. We won't need to rush and we'll try to keep everyone in contact
by mobile.
Iam negotiating with the Mayor of Montreuil to have allocated
parking in The Place General De Gaulle where the Market is located. A chance to
be admired and engage with the locals! I suggest we move our cars to our Hotel
parking around 12.30pm, Montreuil is compact and Le Hermitage isn't far.
Our
Luncheon, (17 Euro Menu!) is at Le Jeraboam, near the Hotel.(pay for yourself
on the day). Our guided walking tour goes from the Tourist Office at 2.30pm and
lasts approximately 2 hours, (again pay on the day). The Tour will touch on the
First World War and the British Occupation of Montreuilfrom 1916, appropriate
in the 100th Anniversary year. If you put "Statue of General Haigh-Montreuil"
into your computer, some fascinating History will come up! So we will be back
at the Hermitage in good time to enjoy our rooms.
I'm enclosing a Restaurant
list ,for Saturday evening, when we have nothing formal arranged, there are some
super choices ,and you can walk to them all. My wife and I are splashing out and
dining at the Chateau De Montreuil, which is expensive but a wonderful old style
French dining experience. I usually wear a jacket but you don't need a tie, ladies
smart. The staff are warm and friendly and the Chateau is beautifully decorated.
On
Sunday,we have a nice drive planned, via the Valley of the Course River, joining
the D940,the old coast road to the seaside village of Ambleteuse, and the "39-45"
Museum. Again appropriate in the 70th. Anniversary year of the D Day Landings.
We'll spend about 2 hours there including their fascinating film show. Again this
is pay on the day, so if you'd rather do something else, you could join us for
lunch which will be in Ambleteuse or the next village, Audreselles. Again flexible
and pay as you go.
Thai's it for now Mon Braves. Maybe see you at Folkstone
or at an event, when the rain stops!" Jon Glover | Jon
