Aldous says "I have a car lift in the garage in case of a flood (it's
also has been known to be used for work on car!) and you can see the very basic
'farm jack' at each corner that requires three 'pumps' to lift the 3 inches, this
allows the second safety bolt to be fitted before the first is removed to lift
a further 3 inches etc. I take it a corner at a time when I have used it. It's
a HAMER car lift." More
Nic Houslip adds "I bought a Hamer lift in 2007 and it has been
a most useful addition to my workshop. I had not considered the ability to lift
a car in case of flood as my location isn't one at risk; but it is a very good
idea. What I can say is that any job requiring work underneath the car becomes
significantly easier. The optional extra of a reclining car seat on 2 pieces of
angle iron and 4 castors allows one to scoot about underneath the car with great
ease. It is important, if you should consider buying second-hand, to make sure
you are getting the modified version with the jack handles inside the lift outline.
The original had the jack handles facing outside the ends of the lift, meaning
that the garage length needed was much greater. You can just see the seat under
the side rail behind the lift's B post above."
Nic
added "I looked at several and I liked the simplicity of the Hamer design
and also its portability. It would take about an hour to take apart and reassemble
outside for washing the underside of the car if one was so inclined! Electric
and hydraulic versions involve "complex" mechanisms that are unnecessary
in a home workshop." |
