What
does a restoration MGBGTV8 look like?
Interest
in this car Several V8 Register members have been in touch saying they
had seen this car advertised for sale on the Car and Classic website and that
it looked like an interesting restoration project. One of our members interested
in a restoration project decided to visit the car and look at it. What they found
was interesting - a car that had been in a very lengthy layup and was in a sorry
state. See notes alongside.
Subsequently we hear the car was sold and recently
we have seen it has been advertised for sale again on eBay by a dealer/trader.
It looks as if they have carried out a great deal of cleaning on the car.
The advert is posted in what some might feel is a forthright style. It's
reproduced alongside. It will be interesting to see how the bidding goes over
the next couple of days and then what happens when the successful bidder goes
to collect it. Chin scratchers and time wasting idiots beware!

What does the car look
like now? Below are a few of the photos of the car following what appears
to have been a very great deal of cleaning. The car is on eBay inviting bids.

190118 & update 190119 & 190120 | Offers
around £5,000 Advert on the Car and Classic website December 2018
Advert seen in December 2018 said "an opportunity to own this
classic petrol head car. Single owner from 1978, the car was in full
working order before it was parked in dry storage with hard standing so all parts
present. Offers invited around £5,000". Seller location: Warwickshire

What
was learned from viewing the car? A report from a fellow member who viewed
the car notes it "was a genuine Factory car - GD2D12345G - for sale
by the second owner who bought it in 1978. It shows 118,000 miles and has been
stored since 1985. The shell IMHO is scrap. We looked at it all over. The inner
and outer sills are paper thin and fingers go through easily. There are holes
in the floor, the top and bottom of both front and rear screens are full of rust.
We couldn't see the engine bay but we were assured everything is there. The interior,
even though covered in mildew, looks original. There were signs of an old
respray with overspray on screen rubbers, engine fans etc. The wheels are poor
and the engine has not been run since 1985.
All
in all although a genuine car it needs a reshell and goodness knows what else.
We both agreed the value was around £2,500 to £3,500 maximum. But
with a V5 and all original parts you could push it to a maximum of £4,500.
The very pleasant wife of the owner, was very honest and informed us that she
had had a viewer from Manchester that morning who had left a firm £5,000
offer. However a local trader/dealer had telephoned an offer of £6,500 and
was coming to collect the car after our viewing. We feel the photos in the advert
lead you to think it the car is better than it looks.
Since our visit I
have had an email from the vendor
telling me that she finally agreed with the dealer on £6,000 and he has
purchased the car. Over the 5 days the car was advertised she had 10 firm enquiries
from 16 calls".

 Interior,
even though covered in mildew, looks original | Bidding
on eBay reached a surprising £8,000 Advert subsequently seen on eBay
January 2019 Advert seen on eBay in January 2019 says "two
previous owners, the last for over 40 years". The seller adds the car
has been in storage for approximately the last 33 years, so will therefore require
restoring, in remarkably solid condition considering it's originality and time
in storage, however it needs a lot of work! So please do not expect to give it
a quick polish and have it on the road by next week! The advert continues
