 Andy
Goves, one of our two Pricewatch volunteers, made an early start today to attend
the Classic Car Auctions' sale
at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre near Leamington Spa. Here he reports on
the sale of an Exceptional condition RV8 with a very low mileage. Including the
VAT payable on the 10% buyer's premium, the total price for a UK buyer would be

Goves was at the Classic Car Auctions' sale today at the Warwickshire Exhibition
Centre near Leamington Spa and reports the "RV8 sold after brisk bidding.
The catalogue estimate was £15,000 to £20,000 and bidding started
at £17,250! It was sold to a telephone bidder at a hammer price of £23,800.
To this must be added a 10% buyers premium so the price on the CCA
website is £26,180. If applicable, VAT of £476 is payable
on the buyer's premium.

A 1996 RV8 reimport in Woodcote Green presented
in excellent condition complete with air conditioning for its original Japanese
destination. An Exceptional condition car with a very low mileage - only
2,040 recorded miles."
 | | The
auction was extremely well attended, with the auction taking from 1100 to 1630
to sell nearly 160 cars. There were a few last minute withdrawals. I detected
a trend for many cars to sell towards the lower estimate shown in the catalogue
but then, anyone bidding would surely start as low as possible, wouldnt
they? I certainly would! There were some star cars, proving the exception to the
above rule. One such example was a VW Golf GTi convertible, owned by Sir David
Jason, who joined the auction by telephone to listen to its successful sale at
£2,200 above the estimate in the catalogue." |
