Mathewsons - Christmas Auction 2015
Andy Goves spotted a Factory MGBGTV8 (1974) in Teal Blue which was sold at Mathewsons' Christmas Auction in December 2015. In the auction catalogue it was listed with a price "estimate" of £4,000 to £6,000. From the photos on Mathewsons' website it appears the car needed a restoration, but there were no photos of the interior. Andy has made enquiries of the auctioneers as the website does not list the sold price, and will post a sequel to this report later once more detailed information has been received.

Update from Andy Goves
Andy Goves reports "I’ve now received a reply to my enquiries from David Mathewson at Mathewsons' auctions, Pickering. The sold price of the 1974 MGB GT V8 was just over £5,000 plus some charges. We know the following from the company’s website and its Q&As:
Q: What are the charges for the purchase / sale of my vehicle(s)?
A: Details of their charges:
Up to £500 = £50.00 + VAT
£501 - £1,000 = £75.00 + VAT
£1,001 - £2,000 = £150.00 + VAT
£2,001 - £20,000 = £7.5% + VAT
£20,000 and above = 5% + VAT
So, the charges for this MGBGTV8, if we assume a hammer price of £5,000, would have been £375 plus VAT at 20% amounting to £75. Total charges applied therefore would have been £450.
The total price paid by the buyer (presuming they are UK based) would have been a minimum of £5,450. In reality, slightly more as we do not have any more accurate information on the hammer price, other than “just over £5,000”. The car was sold “as is” and straight from storage, being described as “very genuine”. Whilst accepting that some restoration would be required, the auction company suggest that little work would be required to get it running – that suggests to me some recommissioning to get the car roadworthy as a minimum, with restoration then following to the level desired by the new owner." 160201

Morris Leslie - auction on 23rd May 2015
Earlier in 2015 another Factory MGBGTV8, again a Teal Blue car, registration number YWJ 466M was sold at auction at a hammer price of £7,500 and a total including the buyer's premium plus VAT of £7,950. That indicates a buyer's premium of 5% to which VAT of 20% has been added. That price is midway between our price guide for Conditions 2 and 3 chrome bumper V8s.
Our research revealed there an incomplete registration of this car on the V8 Database from an enthusiast in Denmark indicating it is Teal Blue 0793. There was note there that the car was previously owned by Chris Yates in Berkshire and on contacting Chris he recalled buying the car in April 2009 for £3,500 from Steve Lewis in Milton Keynes who had owned the car from July 2003. The car had ten previous owners following the original sale by Kennings in Sheffield in January 1974. A few months later Chris advertised it on eBay and sold it in June 2009 for around £4,000 to a policeman who drove it back to Denmark. The V8 Database shows the buyer was Anders Hoj in Denmark. We are hoping to find out how the car was later shipped back to the UK to subsequently appear in Scotland in May 2015 at the auction at Morris Leslie in Perth. We have had no registration of the car from the new owner following the auction.
