EFi V8 Conversion for sale

Black 3119, a very attractive MGBGTV8 Conversion restored and converted in 1996 using a 1978 BGT GHDS474867G. (Photo: Ross Dunlop)

This 1978 MGBGTV8 Conversion must be seen to be appreciated. Please telephone or email for more photos. Black with black interior and trim and converted to chrome bumpers. Beautifully restored and converted to V8 power with Rover V8 fuel injection at Clive Wheatley mgv8parts in Wolverhampton in 1996. The car is in excellent condition and is a real pleasure to drive. It is comfortable, addictively fast and handles extremely well. Steering and cornering are tight and it does 0-60 mph in about 8 seconds. I'm not sure what the top speed is...

If you are looking for a V8, this is well worth a look. Compared with the original MGBGTV8s, it has a newer, stronger motor - the cylinder compression was checked last summer and was 150 in all eight cylinders. It also has the much better SD1 5 speed gearbox and fuel injection. Consequently, it doesn't require constant tweeking, always starts first time, idles nicely and accelerates smoothly, giving more horsepower and better fuel economy than the twin SU carburettors used on the original MGBGTV8s. The only issue you would ever have is replacing the ECU but this one is brand new (fitted in April 2004) providing years of trouble free motoring.

Engine/Drive Train: 3.5 litre fuel injected Range Rover engine is mounted on flexible V8 engine mounts. V8 oil pump, radiator and twin fans. Rover SD1 5 speed gearbox (gearbox tunnel has been enlarged to accomodate this) with an SD1 clutch slave cylinder, V8 propshaft and an MGC back axle.

Suspension/Brakes: Spax shock absorbers front and rear. V8 front coil springs, and V8 rear leaf springs. Enlarged V8 anti-roll bar, V8 competition wishbone bushes, and V8 disks, calipers and pads. MG Minilite wheels with new top of the line Michelin front tyres.

Body/Interior: The car was completely restored in 1996 prior to its conversion to V8 power. I have pictures of the work carried out. All corrosion was cut out and new panels were welded onto the car before it was repainted. Consequently the body is in fantastic shape eight years on. Since I have owned the car it has only been driven in fair weather and has been garage-stored throughout the winters. The interior was also new in 1996 and is still in good shape but does suffer from the usual wear and tear of eight years' use.

Exhaust: Janspeed tail pipe mated to a 2.0 litre Saab silencer and resonator. This gives it a reasonably quiet but wonderful V8 burble.

Security/Other: A Cobra immobiliser has been fitted.
