 Laycock LH Type overdrive unit fitted as standard equipment to the Factory MGBGTV8 model (part number 22B687 new and 22B687E exchange) gives the car long legs with a final drive ratio of 2.518:1 compared in overdrive fourth gear with 3.071:1 in natural top. In terms of speeds that is around 28mph/1,000rpm compared with 23mph/1,000rpm. So at 70mph in overdrive top the engine is turning at around 2,500rpm compared with just over 3,000rpm so reducing engine revs by a relaxing 500rpm.
