Overland with Steve James
Whoever said a Round the World trip was
a once-in-a-lifetime experience, anyway?

I spent 2005 traipsing around the world and writing about my experiences. I loved every minute of it (well, perhaps not contracting e-coli in Laos, but that's another story). So after 18 months back in 'The Office', it wasn't the toughest of decisions to hand in my resignation again - I'm getting pretty good at it now - and hit the road once more. Overland Tales is the story of my next journey, a wintry overland odyssey through Europe and across Russia and Mongolia into China and beyond.

Steve James - an IT expert who is creating the New V8 Database for the V8 Register
Steve set off from his home in Keynsham near Bristol on foot as he was collecting a bycycle from a shop in Southampton. He stopped overnight in Bath and on his second day headed East for his next overnight stop at the Red Lion in Lacock. The weather was wet and after a little mis-navigation he arrived in the deserted High Street in the medieval village and the welcome sight of the Red Lion - "it was everything I had hoped for - warm and cozy" and a hot bath too!

Supper was saw "good portions" in more ways than simply on the plate as you will read from Victor Smith's message to Steve the other day - read it alongside! (21.11.07)

Steve,
Glad to hear you are making progress and assume by now you will be nearing, if not beyond, Stonehenge. I loved your description of the pub in Lacock - “warm and cozy, with good portions of pub grub delivered by a barmaid with an impressive, er, selection of condiments”. That is an expression that deserves repeating. I think what I shall do is relay your tavel tales onto the V8 Website as I am sure many an old fart will have had, may still have, a secret desire to wander off like you! Particularly if there are some good condiments to be seen on the way!
Regards,
Victor
