Longstone
Tyres say that after some considerable time
Pirelli have reproduced the original MGB tyres,
the 165R14 Pirelli Cinturato. This tyre is now available
through Longstone who also offer the excellent Michelin
XAS, another period tyre that they say "will
make an MGB model handle far better than any modern
tyres in this size."
He adds "if you want a tyre that looks right,
is designed to go with an MGB and drives the way
it should, then a period tyre is your choice. Modern
tyres are designed for newer cars and can produce
vague steering on a classic car. |
Film
on period tyres for MGB models
Dougal Cawley of Longstone Tyres says "I have
recently made a film about the period tyres that
are available for the MGB. This film is not designed
to get involved with more modern tyres that people
like to fit. In all honesty your members are as
well getting modern tyres from their local tyre
dealer, but if it is genuine period tyres you are
after then this film should be of interest."
He adds "for enthusiasts who opt for a fatter
tyre, heavier steering can result" without
a modification that reduces the castor angle. Video
