Peter Garton, an RV8 member in Germany, posted a "PayPal scam!" warning on the V8 Bulletin Board on 26th November 2012 saying "I have just received a mail from PayPal purporting that I have transferred a sum of money to Simon Austin. One should open up a selection if sites if I was in any doubt about the transfer. There was one tiny mistake in the text which was quite substantial in its entirety. I did not open the mail and binned it immediately and herewith issue a warning that this scam is around and it is
targeted at our bulletin board."
A copy of the email Peter received is reproduced above with a full size copy via the link below. Presumably to get a refund you have to provide details of your bank account and then - bingo for the scammer! As usual these scams can be very convincing but do take care. By the way, the V8 Register ceased using PayPal as its online payment system several years ago and switched to a better quality of service from WorldPay because of the poor service standards experienced at the local PayPal office in Richmond upon Thames.
