Replacement RV8 hoods from a reliable specialist who supplies hoods that "fit like a glove"

Clive Wheatley met Tickford a while ago and they mentioned that they made the original Mohair hoods for the RV8 and supplied them to MG Rover fitted to the frame for fitting to the car during the final stages of assembly.

A specialist who makes and fits high quality hoods for Astons, Rolls Royces and other top end cars is now supplying a reliable RV8 replacement hood service. The result is a hood that fits like a glove - they only make the hood when they have the car in their workshop so they can measure up accurately and then their fitting procedure achieves a near bespoke fit avoiding unnecessary pulling on the windscreen frame and poor weatherseal around the side windows.
Clive Wheatley will soon announce he can offer a quality replacement hood supply and fitting service shortly which will be welcome news as many RV8 enthusiasts report poor fit from their replacement hoods. He recommends his customers take their car to him so he can arrange for the bespoke fitting service by his local specialist but he will also be able to supply hoods to customers who provide accurate measurements of their hoods. This is particularly important as there are two hood sizes - this was highlighted earlier in an RV8 Workshop Note from Mike Lane.

What difficulties have there been with some replacement hoods?
The poor fit of replacement RV8 hoods from some other sources has been a real concern for a while. Mike Lane reported his poor experience with replacement hoods from CHT and has sent the photo alongside which shows the poor fit of the third hood they supplied for his RV8. The fit on the nearside of the top of the windscreen frame is dreadful and the strain is clear to see. Mike did "complain to CHT

who supplied and fitted it but they said that they were not sure how they could overcome this problem." He says he has "given up returning to them - a lengthy 300 mile journey each time from Andover to Telford and back - as I do not think they would ever improve the hood fit. I had to buy a waterproof hood cover which was fitted overnight when on MG runs" to stop the rain getting in.

David Reid also had a new hood fitted by CHT when his RV8 was down with Clive Wheatley for a service but the hood developed a problem on the journey back to Scotland as the back fixing became loose. Clive had to get the RV8 brought down from Edinburgh on a trailer at a cost of £540 to have a second hood fitted which they found was worse, so the car was taken to the local hood and trim specialist Clive knows near Bridgnorth who supplied and fitted a good quality replacement hood.
