John Davies, the owner of the first rubber bumper MGBGTV8 (Teal Blue 2101) for a while before it was sold to Jacques Milliet in Switzerland, has been in touch saying "of late I have been concerning myself with the completion of my Father’s 1800 ‘B which Ray and Steve Illing at Abingdon Car Restorations have finally finished it after 5 years on! Anyhow, earlier on this year I purchased the registration K6 MGR from Peter Kuruber who you may remember sold his pre-production white RV8 through the V8 Register website to a French buyer. I bought the MGR plate from
him onimpulse. Sadly I can’t justify the purchase of an RV8 at the moment (one day!!) but it seemed a shame to have the plate sat on a retention certificate.

I’m not sure the purists will approve but I have assigned it to a 2002 MG ZS180 and I attach a picture accordingly. At first glance, it’s not a mounting of the same pedigree as the original but I rather like it! The ZS of course has a K series V6 and is also an MGR so the plate is wholly appropriate in that regard. You could also argue that, like the RV8 it was a vehicle created by talented MG Rover engineers from the parts bin, with the end result being a vehicle much greater than the sum of its parts! Apart from the rather ‘extrovert’ styling, it’s a very enjoyable car to drive with performance and handling still held in high regard some 11 years after it was created. I get a reasonable 30 mpg average. In general, ZS180s are now very very cheap. Mine was under £1000 so I may well have doubled the value of the car!! I thought fellow members would like to know that the plate is safe and sound in the hands of an enthusiast."
