Many
classic car enthusiasts will read news of this consultation
with surprise and concern. While there are still
estimated to be more than 1.2 million uninsured
vehicles on the road in the UK it seems entirely
wrong to do anything to remove one of the checks
to combat the scourge of uninsured motorists. The
estimated savings to the DVLA are trivial, if they
exist at all, and the savings to the motorist largely
