 | A
report on a comparative test with various penetrating oils published a few years
ago in Machinists Workshop Mag was spotted by a former engine development
engineer friend of Nic Houslip. He felt fellow V8 members might find it interesting
and maybe it might someone to free a nut or bolt safely on one of our aging V8s.
The magazine reported they tested various |
penetrating oils for break out
torque on rusted nuts. The tests were carried out on the popular penetrating oils
with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a scientifically
rusted environment.

ATF-Acetone mix was a home brew mix of 50-50 automatic transmission

the home brew was better than any commercial product in this test.
Nic Houslip adds a footnote with
the usual disclaimer that acetone is highly flammable | |
