Organ
recital at Blenheim Palalce during the MGB 50 event
The Blenheim
Palace Organ Appeal has been set up to actively seek funds
for this restoration project to take place. We are inviting
our visitors to sponsor a pipe in the organ, to help fundraise
for the maintenance of this wonderful piece of heritage. Sponsorship
ranges from between £25 - £300, and this could make
a wonderful Christmas gift as each sponsor is presented with
a named certificate signed by His Grace, The 11th Duke of Marlborough.

Photo alongside: Tudur Jones at the organ with Ian Quarrington
enjoying the Toccata a great deal. Ian says "note the angle
of Tudur's feet as he plays the pedal organ, his hands are playing
the Choir and Great organs. Now that is what we organists call
toe and heeling!"

Fellow
V8 enthusiast Tudur Jones, who is a Professional
Organ player (from Wales, unsurprisingly) and Ian
Quarrington were both priviledged to be able to
play the famous Father Willis Organ at Blenheim
during the MGB 50 afternoon. It had been arranged
by V8 Secretary, Debbie Brading, with Dr. Charles
Mould who looks after the Organ. The instrument
is very rare and is probably the largest pipe organ
in private ownership anywhere in Europe.
Amongst other pieces in our short recital, Tudur
performed the complex Toccata written by the French
composer Charles - Marie Widor, heard |
 |
mostly
at weddings. Ian felt it appropriate to play the
Nimrod from the Elgar Variations. Both Tudur and
Ian were surprised to discover on turning around
from the console that they had attracted a sizeable
audience!
There is an appeal to help restore the organ
at Blenheim where people can "sponsor"
a pipe and the sponsors name will go into the future
archive against the pipe type and size. Ian Quarrington
says "I have already made arrangements to do
this and sent off my cheque." More |
