Soaring
corn prices stirs calls in the US for demand rationing
With
no obvious large suppliers to make up for the drought ravaged
corn crop, the US is seeing stocks close to record lows and
analysts believe demand must be pegged back. The biggest potential
for a reduction in corn demand in the US comes from the ethanol
industry which is using about 5bn bushels of corn a year, nearly
40% of the US corn crop to make fuel for cars and annimal feed
as a byproduct.

motor fuel in the US and a cut back in what have
been large ethanol exports that may help balance
the US corn market. Already US ethanol production,
once seen as unmoved by high corn prices, is falling
back as rocketing corn prices and motor fuel demand
remains weak. Last week it's reported that US ethanol
plants produced 33.7m gallons a day, the lowest
volume since October 2009. More

Ensus to restart UK ethanol refinery in August
2012
A report on 18th July 2012 from Platts (London)
indicated that "informed sources" have
said "ethanol producer Ensus could restart
its 400 million litre pa ethanol refinery at Wilton
on Teesside in northeast England as soon as August
after being shut for more than 15 months for economic
reasons." The report added "Ensus declined
to comment on a firm startup date, saying operations
should resume later this year. The ethanol refinery
was temporarily shut down in May 201. Reports suggested
the company had indicated competition from US imports
had dealt a blow to its operations. The Platts'
reporter added "Ensus has been conducting engineering
work at the Wilton plant since May ahead of a possible
restart." Platts
