Hunting
for the right word!
Listeners to Radio 4's daily news programme Today heard presenter
James Naughtie slip up on air. Naughtie said he had got himself
into a "verbal tangle" but has apologised for causing
offence by mispronouncing Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt's surname.
The presenter
inadvertently used an offensive four-letter word just before
0800 GMT on Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 6th December
2010. More

The
Now Show, a mix of comedy and satirical comments
on Radio 4 with Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis, could
not resist parodying Naughtie's slip in their latest
episode on Friday 11th December. You can hear it

Transcript
of a priceless sketch from the Now Show
Welcome to a Radio 4 comedy
show, not like those foul mouthed flagship current
affairs programmes - so in order to stop this week's
unfortunate incident from happening again they have
drafted in some old Two Ronnies scriptwriters to
put the presenters through their paces!
Pip pip pip - p-i-i-i-i-p
(Greenwich pips on the hour - this is how the Today
programme starts at 6.00am each weekday morning)
Good morning - I'm Jim Naughtie and this is Andrew
Marr.
(Naughtie) With Christmas coming, I will be asking
is there a grit shortage? I will be talking to a
grit shoveller whose grit shifting schedule shifts
grit to keep the shut shops ship shape.
(Marr) And I will be talking to a pheasant plucker
and a pheasant plucker's mate.
(Naughtie) And I will be talking to Jeremy Hunt,
Culture Secretary, about the culture of hunting
and whether the cult of hunting can be halted by
a stupid stunt against the West Kent Hunt.
(Marr) It's good night from me,
(Naughtie) And good night from me!
Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis rattled this off with
no slips - try it yourself and see if you can get
through with no verbal tangles! |
