Abingdon is the spiritual home of MG as the MG factory
played such a significant part in Abingdon's historic
past. Today the MG Car Club's offices are close
to the site of the MG plant so that close association
continues. Over recent years members of the Club's
Abingdon Works centre have been enthusiastic supporters
of an MG exhibition at Abingdon Museum, playing
an important part in sourcing archive material and
orgnaising the exhibition. Abingdon Museum is now
undergoing a major restoration and refurbishment
and the MG Car Club is co-arranging an MG run to
help raise much needed funds for the project which
will house a permanent MG display. |
Four
scenic MG runs will converge
on Abingdon withstarting points in Cambridge, Surrey,
Warwickshire and Wiltshire. On arrival in Abingdon,
participants will park their MGs in a reserved parking
area alongside the River Thames and then walk up
to the town centre to enjoy in other entertainments.
A map guided stroll around the sights of Abingdon
to include some of the MG points of interest is
one option or you can attend a presentation of historic
films and an entertaining talk by the veteran MG
race driver Barry "Whizzo" Williams in
the Abingdon School lecture theatre.
The MG run is priced at £25 per car with two
occupants, to include road book, rally plate and
entry to the riverside finish area car park. The
Barry "Whizzo" Williams talk and film-show
is £2.50 per person. Places are limited for
the theatre presentation and are on first come first
served basis. Please
contact the MG Car Club on 01235 555552 to book
your place now! Please indicate your chosen run
starting point and if you would like to attend the
talk. Alternatively you can book
online on the MG Car Club website or check out
the advert with a booking form on page 63 of the
August issue of Safety Fast!.
