Winter tyres are not snow tyres
One of the most common reasons we hear winter tyres aren't needed
in the UK is because we don't get enough snow. Winter tyres
are designed to be more effective than regular tyres in any
temperature under 7C (44F) on any type of road. Cold weather
tyres are designed with a larger percentage of natural rubber
and silica in the compound which doesn't harden up as much as
synthetic rubber in cold conditions.

Chris
Hunt Cooke reports some progress on the winter tyres
front. All the regular UK suppliers are out of stock
and are not expecting any re-supply, but one internet
supplier had a facility for logging an order and
sending a notification when stock came in, which
I filled in, more in hope than expectation. However,
greatly to my surprise, after a few days I got a
message saying they had Goodyear and Michelin tyres
in the size I wanted. So then I wanted to make sure
I could get the second-hand |
wheels to put them on and by the time I got back
on the website, the Goodyears had gone! However,
I have ordered the Michelin Alpin and just now heard
they have been dispatched.
So I thought you might like to let V8 members know
of a possible source of this rare commodity, with
the warning they may need to act quickly. The company
is www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk
It may be that as a French company they have brought
tyres over from France to meet UK demand. I think
they have a very good website, and I now see the
founder was an IT consultant! |
