Fire at the Premier Inn next to the Green Man pub near Silverstone

Many MG enthusiasts attending the Club's annual MGLive! event visit the Green Man and stay at the Premier Inn. Hopefully the inn will be refurbished in time for MGLive! 2011.

The Premier Inn behind the Green Man at Brackley Hatch between Syresham and Silverstone on the A43 was gutted by fire on Monday 5th July only days before the F1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The hotel is popular with MG enthusiasts attending the annual MGLive! event at Silverstone as it is only a short drive to the circuit. The RAF Croughton, Bucks and Northants Fire Brigades were called to the scene on Monday night. Clearly this will put real pressure on accommodation not only for the Grand Prix this weekend but also the Silverstone Classic and Superbikes event in the following weeks. The cause of the fire has yet to be established and fire service investigators were at the scene on
Tuesday morning. It is reported that it appears that linen in plastic crates outside of the main hotel building caught fire. The two men - a 36-year-old man from Coventry and a 20-year-old man from Leicester - were arrested on suspicion of arson and were in custody at Weston Favell police station in Northampton. Jenson Button's mother was among 60 guests who had to be evacuated from the Premier Inn.
