Another
e-petition on the 10 Downing Street website
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to change
the tax exemption laws for historic motor cars".
Submitted by Samuel Nelson
Deadline to sign up by: 31 May 2007
Currently cars have to have been constructed before a set date - the
1st January 1973 - to be eligible for historic car tax exemption.
We the undersigned would like the date to be move as it has been fixed
for a number of years. A number of cars which were built in British
factories are becoming few and far between and would like the Government
to help preserve these cars by offering an extension to the current
exemption date.
Why not visit the
website and add your name to the petition?

Many members with
an MGBGTV8 missed the historic car tax exemption by less than a
year when the present Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown came
into office in 1997. One of the first things he did was to remove
the annual rolling feature on the historic car tax exemption so
it has remained frozen with a qualifying date of 1st January 1973
ever since!
