Tom
Williams from Surrey reports "about a year and a half ago I purchased
my Grandad's MGBGTV8 (Damask 0558) with a view to restoring it to
its glory year of 1973. I am very busy at Bristol University and rather
strapped for cash but have at last saved enough to begin the restoration
work. I had wanted to complete as much of it myself as possible as
I am quite a mechanically minded man but unfortunately time is not
in abundance at the moment. I have therefore sent it to Surrey Sports
and Classics (Ripley, Surrey) to begin the mechanical side of the
work.
Once it is back on the road (hopefully by summer), I plan to have
a little fun with it for a few weekends and then in late 2009 send
it back to have the bodywork looked at. I hope by summer 2010 I can
lend it to my Grandad for a few weekends and he can reminisce and
enjoy the car as he most certainly must have done

when he bought it brand new in September 1973.
I have asked
to be as involved as much as possible in the restoration and will
ensure that I pop into SSC on many occasions over the next few months
to see how the work is progressing and take some photos." |
