Report 4 - rebuilding Damask 0450
Rebuild report 4
Barrie Jones reports that work proceeds on Damask 450. Here we see (above) where the whole of the driver's floor has been removed. One third of the jacking point cross-member also had to be cut out, because water always gets in through a 20mm hole in the cross-member and rots it out. The passenger side does not have this hole, so it tends not to rust on this side. After the rebuild, I will inject Waxoyl into the cross-member and insert two 20mm rubber blanking plugs in the holes.

Here we see a complete new cross-member which has been carefully taken apart so that the outer one third can be used, along with the reinforcing plate which covers it. Note how each spot weld had to be drilled out.

Progress may slow during the August holiday season, but it should speed up again in September. (14.8.08)

This photo shows how the entire castle section has been removed. It is not a good idea to remove the outer sill yet, because it is providing rigidity to the bodyshell, and gives us a reference to where we can align all the replacement panels.
