AT THE PRIX DES ALPES 2006

The Prix des Alpes is a week long event with a route that traverses
a selection of the high Alpine passes much used in the golden age
of rallying. This year's event was contested by 43 crews in machinery
varying from a 1949 TC to a 2005 Porsche Carrera 4 and interestingly
it was the TC that finished in the top 10! The MGBGTV8 of Malcolm
Thomas above and Al Barnett's RV8 did very well. A full report from
Al Barnett will be in the four page V8 Newsletter out in December
            issue.
 Next year will
be the tenth Prix des Alpes. Al and Fiona Barnett have taken part
in all of them and look forward to this anniversary event. If you
think you might enjoy the scenery, the burble of the V8 up at 8,000ft,
good hotels, but not the competition, then there is a touring class
where the routes are more straightforward. Details can be obtained

            AT CASTLE COMBE
The roar of fully modified V8s at the BCV8 round at Castle Combe in
September and the close racing were simply mouthwatering and very
good spectator value. Mike Breedon (above), a longstanding V8 member
from Yorkshire and an active member of the BCV8 Championship, was
competing with the ex John Tadman MGBGTV8 with its distinctive paint
scheme. The two full-house V8s of John Wilson and Adrian Beer finished
0.8 seconds apart in a thrilling race and Roy McCarthy's MGBGTV8 on
narrower rubber was driven with truly impressive skill.
