V8 Column for June 2003
published in Safety Fast!, the award winning monthly magazine of the MG Car Club

From the middle of the month, the V8 25th Anniversary 2003 Week of activities will be underway starting with the RV8 Talk on Sunday 15th June and running through to the following weekend when members of the MG Car Club gather at Silverstone for the annual International MG Meeting at Silverstone. Bookings for the V8 Dinner at the new BRDC Clubhouse at Silverstone on the Friday evening, 20th June, have been coming in briskly as it is proving popular. Later in the V8 25th Anniversary year we have the V8 Cornish Tour over the long weekend 3rd to 6th October.

The V8 25th Anniversary 2003 Week of events runs from Sunday 15th June through to the International MG Meeting at Silverstone over the long weekend from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd June. Full details of the programme of events are in the four page V8 Newsletter in the April issue of Safety Fast! and on the V8 Website at www.v8register.net including application forms for each event and for a V8 Pass. The V8 Pass Holders and V8 Dinner Ticket Holders are listed on the V8 Website and the passes and tickets will have been sent out to members from the middle of May. If you have ordered one and not received it by the time you read these notes, do get in touch with Victor Smith.

From mid April there has been a V8 Online Sales service available on the V8 Website which enables members to purchase workshop notes CDs and tickets for events online using the PayPal payment mechanism which enables you to transfer funds using your chargecard or credit card. This should be particularly convenient for our overseas members.

The V8 Register has been an openly democratic group from its formation in 1978, and V8 AGM has traditionally been held on the Sunday at the Club's Silverstone weekend so as many V8 members as possible can attend. The V8 AGM will be held at 12.30pm on Sunday 22nd June 2003 at the V8 Marquee. A formal notice of the V8 AGM and agenda will appear elsewhere in Safety Fast! The V8 Track Laps session is at 11.40am so the AGM will follow shortly after members get back from the track to the V8 Parking area.

In the Autumn there is the V8 Cornish Tour over the long weekend from Friday 3rd to Monday 6th October 2003. The V8 Tours have been a very popular event over the years and this year the base hotel is in Falmouth. The organiser Gordon Hesketh-Jones has already seen a stream of advance bookings. Full details of the programme of events, information on the hotel, costs and booking forms are on the V8 Website. Members without internet facilities can contact Gordon for an information pack at Manningford, Trew, Helston, Cornwall TR13 9QW or on 01736 763053. His email address is at manningford@btinternet.com for any queries.
