David
Duquette in NJ USA has sent in some details of this very good
looking MGBGTV8 conversion.
Motor:
Rover 4.2 litre with a Carter AFB 400 carburettor, big-valve ported
heads, Erson fast road cam, ~1/2 inch lift with double valve springs,
and Edelbrock Performer intake. The engine is in the normal V8 conversion
position.
Ignition:
MSD 6AL box, rev-limited to 6,000, triggered by a Mallory Unilite
distributor (the one for the Buick 215s) with vacuum advance.
Exhaust:
Block-hugger headers (mild steel, Jet-Hotted) and a single 2.5 inch
stainless steel silncer system.
Gearbox:
Rover 5=speed box from a TR8.
Body:
Externally stock except for an RV8 style bulge in an aluminium MGB
hood which has a very slightly wider bulge than the RV8 to clear
the 14 inch air cleaners. The crossmember is stock chrome bumper.
Rear
suspension: An MGC 3.07 rear end with a Quaife limited-slip
differential, custom British Automotive rear suspension set up consisting
of leaf springs (139#.inch), traction bars (bolted into reinforced
floors behind the seats), with special coil over tube shock absorbers
(25#/inch springs give a litttle more stiffness). The car has a
Hopkinson sway bar set, BA fabricated special spring perch plates
to serve as both the rear traction bar attachment and simultaneously
hold the ends of the rea sway bar. Having tried various combinations
on the rear, I really like this setup.
Tyres/wheels:
195/60/15 Yokohama tyres on Panasport 15x6 wheels.

Externally

is mouthwatering! (Photo: David Duquette)
Brakes:
Stock MGB with drilled & slotted rotors, Greenstuff pads, and
braided stainless steel hoses with a stock non-servo dual-loop system.
Fuel pump:
Mallory Comp 70 electric pump, soft mounted on a metal web in front
of the battery box on the right hand side.
Steering:
A 3.5 turn late rubber bumper steering rack running back to a shortened
chrome bumper steering column, rubber bumper style "steering
cone" welded into the bulkhead and an LE steering wheel.

style bulge can be clearly seen in this overhead shot. (Photo: david

Cooling:
A four core, with staggered and dimpled tubes, radiator, 2 inches
deeper than standard (looks like the Wheatley design), waterpump
driven plastic Triumph fan plus two thermostatically controlled
8 inch Perma-Cool pushers on the front. Short nose water pump. No
oil cooler. Aluminim tray seals the front radiator to valance.
Electrics.
An 80A alterantor in the conventional V8 position, modern blade-style
fuse box and relays on all the heavy-draw circuits.
Instruments:
Stock instrumenttaion with Factory tachometer and a re-geared MGC
140mph speedometer, air/fuel meter and vacuum guage inside the glove
box.
Interior:
Stock.
Audio system:
The exhaust pipe!
