RV8 tachometer removal and wiring
Ross Boyd posted a query on the V8BB saying could someone please tell me how to remove the tacho without removing the whole dash? (Jan 10)

Ross Boyd said there is a metal fascia support bracket directly in front of the tacho brackets limiting the access. If not could someone tell the sequence of the wiring connects to the back when when viewed from the rear of the dash looking up at the tacho. There is a white plastic connecting on the back of the tacho with two male pins and a separate pin further across.

Gavin Brown from downunder replied it is probably easiest (but not mandatory) to drop the three bolts holding the steering column up and then there are two 7mm (from memory) nuts that hold the tacho bracket in place. Once you undo these, the gauge pulls out of the dash.

Ross Boyd responded with thanks saying it certainly
gives a bit more access. I just need to know the
wiring connector positions to the gauge. There are three terminals - Red, White and Black. Do you know which position they should be on the gauge when viewing the gauge from the rear? He later added he had found the connector details in the RV8 Manual.

John Brown
added that he removed his tacho by kneeling on the floor outside the car, head facing into the driver's area, threading his right hand up over the steering column and onto the tacho. Then with a very small spanner he undid the two nuts and removed the clamp bracket. He advises that you should make a note of the wiring connections and then remove from the tacho. As all good manuals state - refitting is the reverse of above! He added "one thing that would help, allthough I have not managed to find any yet, is some M4 wingnuts which would alleviate the need for the spanner. My reason for the effort in removing the tacho was so that I could get it recalibrated."

Hugh Boddington responded saying "M4 wing nuts are in stock at www.threadfast.co.uk who are at Royle Street, Congleton, CW12 1HR and on 01260 278236.
