Optimax chip upgrade

Just for the record, Rpi Engineering has another satisfied customer! My car had been re-chipped by the previous owner with a basic fuel-saving chip, but I didn’t think that the performance was as I would have expected from a 3.9 V8, with noticeable lack of ‘urge’ when accelerating from lower revs when overtaking. Having owned it for about a year, I decided it was time to get it sorted.

I ordered and fitted a set of Magnecor plug leads and a fuel pressure boost valve from Rpi, and then drove up to Norwich from my home in Southampton for Chris and the team to fit an Optimax chip. They recommended an ignition amplifier as well, and tweaked the timing. The car has been transformed, with smooth acceleration throughout the rev range and an impressive increase in torque. Chris even demonstrated going up the gearbox from standstill using idle rpm – with no throttle!

Having already had a set of Clive Wheatley’s excellent Koni sports shockers fitted, the car is now an absolute delight to drive – as MG Rover should have built it in the first place! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Optimax cip and Rpi to any RV8 owner. The product is superb, and the support from Rpi has been first class, with all my email queries answered by return and really friendly service during my visit to them.
