What are the route options and costs?
We have looked at the routes from the UK to Norway for members wishing to attend the European Event 2009 at Geiranger and prepared a spreadsheet calculating the likely costs which are quite high. The route options we have looked at are described below.

(R14 14.12.08)

Ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg, then drive across Denmark over the bridge to Sweden, on to Oslo and then north to Geiranger.

Cross channel ferry to Calais then drive up to Kiel for the ferry to Oslo, then drive north to Geiranger.

Ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg, then ferry from Frederikshavn to Oslo, then drive north to Geiranger.

We have also examined the option of ferrying cars by car transporter from the UK to Oslo so members could fly into Oslo, but that proved far too expensive. Note bookings for the Geiranger event close on 1st January 2009.
Update on Geiranger EEOY 2009
Steinar Braaten in Norway reports "today we have 254 cars on the bookings list and that's the maximum we can take in the hotel. The committee is satisfied with the numbers of cars that have booked as many say the current financial problems do have a great effect on many enthusiasts' finances. About 40 cars have been taken off the list, mainly for that reason, and some because of the closure of the UK-Norway ferry. So,
without these two reasons, I am sure that more than
300 cars would be on our list. And that is good.

The time runs very fast now and I now realize what I was starting two years ago . . . The Geiranger event committee work hard and I feel we are on time and have control over the preparations. Many things still have to be sorted out but we know about them - or more correct we believe we know about them. It is always things popping up when we do not need any more, but that's a part of the game." (5.1.09)
