Sad
news, Peter Neal
It is with great sadness that we share the news that our friend Peter
Neal passed away peacefully on Monday 13th July 2026. He was the MG
Car Club's Archivist, a role he fulfilled with dedication and enthusiasm
for over 20 years.
On behalf
of everyone at the MG Car Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences
to Pam, Catherine, Christopher and all of Pete's family at this very
sad time.

Peter
Neal joined MG at Abingdon in 1954 as a Design Office apprentice.
During his remarkable career he worked alongside some of the
legendary names in MG's history, contributing to projects including
the MG Midget and the development of the MGB and the MGBGTV8.
After the Factory closed, his passion for the marque never diminished.
In retirement, he volunteered at Kimber House, helping preserve
the Club's rich heritage before becoming the Club's Archivist,
a role he fulfilled with dedication and enthusiasm for over
20 years. Pete's knowledge, kindness, commitment to MG and its
history touched countless members. He was always generous with
his time and helped ensure that the MG legacy would be preserved
for future generations.

Smith recalls speaking with Peter Neal when he was reviewing
an article on a modification of adding an inline fuse as protection
for the V8 overdrive circuit. The lack of an inline fuse on
the ignition power feed to the overdrive switch on an MGB and
its derivatives is something that had always been a significant
oversight in terms of protecting the wiring from a burn out
should a short develop. On discussing this with Peter he responded
saying that "when the development of the MGBGTV8 was underway
before its launch in August 1973, he had the task of reviewing
the MGBGT wiring loom and the need for any changes or upgrades
for the loom to be used on the MGBGTV8 model". Peter added
"the need for a fuse on the overdrive circuit was spotted
as a prudent addition to the new loom" but then commented
"the budget allocated by BL to cover the cost of any wiring
upgrades for the MGBGTV8 loom was so small the fuse upgrade
was seen as unaffordable!"
