MGBV8 Roadster up for auction
The car was built meticulously by Peter Nixon over three years or so. Sadly Peter passed away in May 2025. So now his car is due to be auctioned as Lot 56 this weekend at WB & Sons' auction on Saturday. Our V8 Scribe, Peter Berry, has spotted this car listed for auction at what feels like a low guide price.

1980 MGBV8 Roadster - Lot 56
The auction listing says:
First registered in February 1980 and originally with the standard MG 1.8 litre engine, this Pageant Blue example has been extensively upgraded by the current owners (life long MG Car Club members and owners) over a 3 year period and completed in 2022. Upgrades include a 3.5 litre Rover V8 engine with a manual gearbox, a stripped and blasted bodyshell converted to chrome bumpers, rebuilt with all new metal work, new brake and fuel lines, new cooling system etc.
The engine itself has been rebuilt with rebored cylinders, Vitesse pistons, reground crank shaft, new bearings, Oselli stage 1 ported cylinder heads, Land Rover 3.9 cam shafts, twin 1.75" SU carburettors, tubular manifolds and a large bore exhaust. The brakes are upgraded with Austin 4 piston calipers and vented disks. The vendor advises of a spend of over £25,000. It is offered with a good sized history file including the vendor's list of work carried out, invoices and copy of a Heritage certificate. More
Guide price: £10,000 - £14,000

Comment
: Peter Nixon was an MG enthusiast who worked hard to create this attractive MGV8 Roadster and enjoyed the result. Now it's up for sale at a very attractive guide price of £10,000 to £14,000 so any V8 Register members or other MGV8 enthusiasts thinking of getting an MGBV8 should not miss this auction - attend in person or bid online! It would be sad to to see such an attractive car in a good condition sold to a trader only to see it appear a week or so later offered for sale at a much higher price, probably at over £20,000 or more. So don't delay get ready to bid for the car.

Update on Saturday 21st March 2026
Peter Berry reports the V8 Roadster sold for only £10,000 so with the buyer's commission of 7.5% and VAT that's £10,900. Was any V8 Register member at the auction with any news on how the auction went?
