How
many MGV8s in the UK?
Ken Clayton spotted an online item highlighting some "Now Many
Left" data for the MGRV8 model. From a little research some interesting
information was found.

The website was developed and is run by Olly Smith, a car geek who
works on this site in his spare time. Links to MGBGTV8 & MGRV8

MGBGTV8
- total number licensed/taxed or on a SORN in the UK
in Q2 2025 was 1,003.
The
pattern of licensed/taxed MGBGTV8s is relatively steady with
a slow fall in cars on a SORN. As MGBGTV8s (over 40 years from
their built date) are eligible for the VED exemption, very nearly
all cars will have been registered as Historic vehicles but
still have to make an annual VED renewal at the NIL VED rate.
Looking at the number of cars on a SORN the slight rise is probably
from a combination of some restorations being recorded as on
a SORN again, less a small reduction from cars in a very poor
condition that have been scrapped.

The number
of licensed/taxed MGBGTV8s of 1,003 above in 2025 Q2 is 31%
of the total Factory production of 2,591. It's not clear
whether MGBGTV8 Conversions will be included in the stats above.

MGRV8
- total number licensed/taxed or on a SORN in the UK
in Q2 2025 was 617.
The pattern of the combined total of MGRV8s licensed/taxed and
those on a SORN has remained steady, but because the MGRV8 has
yet to reach eligibility for the annual VED exemption concession
owners have to to pay VED/road tax if they wish to use the car
on public roads in the UK during the "Summer" months.
So we can see there are spikes each year in those months in
Q3 & Q4. With far less use of the cars during the "Winter"
months we can see significant increases in cars recorded as
on a SORN in Q1 & Q4.

The number of licensed/taxed
MGRV8s of 619 above in 2025 Q2 is around 31% of the total
Factory production of 2,000. The
V8 Database records many MGRV8s registered overseas, particularly
in Australia and New Zealand and a significant number are still
in Japan. See an earlier report. Link
