In an "exclusive" news item on the cover of this week's issue of Classic Car Weekly, David Simister reports "the Shadow Transport Secretary Richard Holden MP said that he believed the zero-rate Vehicle Excise Duty was at risk from a "tax grab" by the Chancellor Rachel Reeves in the next Budget due on 26th November". The article adds he told CCW that the current 40 year rolling VED exemption rule introduced in 2014 risks being frozen . . . . and that higher fuel duty could also impact classic car usage. That "freeze" might mean ceasing the rolling 40 year eligibilty for the VED exemption so RV8s would miss out on the benefit from 2033.

If the full road tax were to be reintroduced for Historic cars that could see the cost of petrol for an MGBGTV8 doing a modest 2,000 miles pa rise by 18p a mile or 78%!
