Car tax payment scam
The online option for paying your car tax - or continuing your Historic VED exemption - using the DVLA "tax online" website is very convenient. All you need is the 16 digit reference number on your Vehicle Tax reminder that you receive from DVLA and then you process your renewal of the road tax for your car on the "tax online website". It's a very convenient option but sadly scammers can target you with a fake email. You may be aware of this scam but to avoid fellow MGV8 enthusiasts falling into the trap we highlight the scam here.

The tax online website is:

Scam email impersonating the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
A scam email with the GOV.UK and DVLA logos on display tells you that your latest vehicle tax payment (made via the online DVLA tax payment system) failed due to your using incorrect details. The scam email then provides you with a link to update those details but then warns you that if you don't do so you risk a fine of up to £1,000. It also claims that your details may be passed onto a debt collection agency.

This link will lead to a malicious phishing website which will steal your personal and financial information. So take care.
