Enjoy
                a visit to Sywell Aerodrome
                and an informal lunch
                Sywell Aerodrome is
set in the heart of Northamptonshire,
just northeast of Northampton, and is
                one of
the UKs leading General Aviation airfields. It's
an active airfield with a variety of aircraft taking off and landing.

                The
Aviator's hotel, bar and restaurant are unique, not just in
their Art Deco style but also with wonderful views across the
                bustling airfield at Sywell Aerodrome.
Formerly the original Pilots Clubhouse and Officers Mess during
WW2, the Aviator has been extensively renovated in recent years
to its former Art Deco glory, whilst retaining much of its rich
aviation history. It features outdoor seating on the garden terrace
and also a large garden area with views across the airfield where
aircraft take off and land, with even the occasional air display.

Sywell Aerodrome dates back to 1927 when a local landowner
agreed to let 55 acres of his land to the Northamptonshire Aero
Club and there was a grand opening of the airfield on Saturday
29th September 1928. In 1933 work began on the construction of
the new Clubhouse in the Art Deco style which was opened
on 22nd April 1934 - it's now known as the Aviator Hotel.
During WW2 Sywell played a key role as an RAF flying training
facility and an important centre for the repair of nearly 2,000
Wellington bombers during the war period. Sywells rich aviation
history is still evident around the aerodrome and is displayed
within the Sywell Aviation Museum, opened in 2001, which is located
onsite. The Museum is open to the public from mid-May until the
end of October on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12pm until 4pm
with the support of volunteers. A couple of aircraft are on display
                outside the Museum.
