Replacing spacer fixing pads on a number plate
A quick and easy number plate fixing is to use double-sided adhesive pads between the back of the number plate and the front of the metal back plate. They are available as PlateFix sets supplied by Hills Numberplates and readily available from Halfords.

Over time existing spacer fixing pads can age and begin losing their adhesive strength. To avoid the loss of a number plate it's well worth checking the pads and renewing them when necessary as a precaution. A set of three spacer pads is not expensive at £4.19 and the replacement is straightforward. See an illustrated note
Comment: This note covers a minor servicing item when the adhesive pads holding the plastic number plate to the back plate begin to fail. The last thing you want is to have is a number plate falling off on bumpy road conditions with ageing adhesive pads that lose their grip between the number plate and the backing plate. It's a relatively modest note which might hardly deserve being added to the current volume of either set of workshop notes, but it is one of those service items which is easy to deal with and could then save an MGV8 owner the inconvenience and expense of replacing a number plate that had fallen off. Cleaning my V8 after a weekend drive I spotted one pad had failed (possibly after a hot roasting in the sunshine), so I decided to replace all three pads. If my backing plate hadn't been a little bent in places I might have used the kit with 1mm pads but the 6mm pads look safer.
